Is the Science Fair a competition?
- The Science Fair is not a competition, it is an opportunity for Blossom Hill students to have fun with science and use the Scientific Method. The Blossom Hill School Science Fair aims to instill a love of the scientific method of inquiry in every student. We also hope to promote a positive learning experience by giving students an opportunity to ask questions, solve problems, set goals, manage projects, think critically and have fun with science, technology, engineering and math.
Is the Science Fair open to all grades?
- The Science Fair is open to all Blossom Hill students (Transitional Kindergartners through 5th graders).
Can students work in teams?
- Students in the same grade may work in teams of two or three. We STRONGLY encourage students to work with peers in the same grade. However, if you do partner with someone from a different grade, each participant must present the project individually, using their own boards.
Can students submit multiple projects?
- Yes, motivated students may submit multiple projects either individually or as part of different teams. Each project will require a separate registration form.
Is there a fee to participate in the Science Fair?
- Yes, in order to make the Science Fair self-sustaining, a registration fee of $20 is being implemented. This fee will cover the cost of the t-shirt, medal and tri-fold display board.
What if my student changes their mind?
- While we ask students to submit a project title on the registration form, they do not need to inform the committee if they change their project.
Why does the Science Fair emphasize the Scientific Method?
- The Scientific Method is a useful framework for asking questions and solving problems. This framework can be used outside the classroom. Many believe the scientific method helps minimize bias and leads students to better results.
- The Scientific Method includes the following steps:
- Ask a question
- Conduct research
- Form a hypothesis
- Conduct experiments
- Analyze results
- Share results
What are the 5th Grade presentations?
- Blossom Hill 4th and 5th graders have an opportunity to present their projects to visiting 8th graders from Fisher Middle School on Friday morning. This event gives 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to improve on their oral presentation skills. The Fisher Science Department selects 8th grade students to participate in this event.
Is there still time to volunteer my time to help with the February 2020 Science Fair?
- Yes! We can always use more volunteers. For more information on volunteer opportunities, check back in August 2020 for information on volunteer opportunities for the 2020-21 Science Fair.
